Mary Ann Mitchell, 66, Altoona, died Tuesday night at UPMC Presbyterian, Pittsburgh.
She was born in Hollidaysburg, daughter of Edward and Jenny Mae (Rudy) Helsel. She married Michael James Mitchell on June 14, 1969, at Sacred Heart Church, Bakerton.
Surviving are her husband; two sons: Michael James II (April) and Mark Allen (Beth), both of Altoona; three grandchildren: Lindsay, Isaiah and Elijah; two stepgrandchildren: Chantel and Dustin; two sisters: Lois Miller and Avis Shaw; two brothers: Edward and James Helsel; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mary Ann was a graduate of Altoona High School and Pruonto's Beauty School. She was a homemaker and had worked at her aunt Florence's hair salon on Plank Road and Sandy's Cleaning Service as well as for Sen. Robert Jubelirer. She attended an independent Bible church, was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and volunteered at the polls on voting day.
Mary Ann loved people and socializing, bingo, crafting, Elvis, Civil War history, puzzles, music, dancing and especially spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Friends will be received from noon until the 2 p.m. funeral service Friday, March 29, 2013, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home Inc., Juniata, Pastor Jim Balzano officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Joyce Murtha Breast Care Center in Windber.
