John E. Hillard Sr., 83, The Winds at Mattern Orchard, Duncansville, formerly of Juniata, died Sunday at Altoona Regional.
He was the son of the late John L. and Alice A. (Miller) Hillard. He married Delores E. Wise on Nov. 4, 1956, and she preceded him in death on Aug. 22, 2004.
Surviving are two daughters: Ellen F. Teeter of Hollidaysburg and Alicia A. Null and husband, George, of Mechanicsburg; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a close family friend, Dorothy Brumbaugh.
He was preceded in death by a son, John E. Jr.
John graduated from Bellwood-Antis High School and was a 1953 graduate of Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He retired as owner of Broad Avenue Pharmacy and had been a pharmacist there for 46 years.
John was a member of Altoona Grace Brethren Church, where he was a church leader, Sunday school teacher and worship leader. He enjoyed photography and playing the flute, and he especially loved his wife and family.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at E. Merrill Smith Funeral Home Inc., 2309 Broad Ave., Altoona, and 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Thursday, March 28, 2013, at Altoona Grace Brethren Church by Pastor Rodney Lingenfelter. Interment will be at Logan Valley Cemetery.
