March 21, 2013
The Altoona Mirror

From Mirror reports

It's been a good year for the Gripp family, and that continued on Wednesday evening at Tyrone Area High School.

Tyrone junior guard Brandon Gripp - who averaged more than 20 points per game - was named the most valuable player for boys basketball as the Mountain League unveiled its winter sports all-stars. Also at the banquet, Gripp's older sister, Nicole, headed up the girls basketball first team.

Tyrone's Alayna Hettinger also went home with first-team honors in girls basketball, as did Philipsburg-Osceola's Brianna Rusnak. Marissa Ward of Bald Eagle Area was the girls basketball MVP, and BEA had two other players make the first team.

Central's Austin Cunningham and Huntingdon's Nate Gearhart were voted to the boys basketball first team.

Three wrestlers from the Altoona Mirror coverage area were recognized. Huntingdon's Collin Glorioso made it at 106 pounds, while teammate Nathan Russell was the 132-pounder on the all-star lineup. Central 113-pounder Kale Burket rounded out the picks from the area.

Bellefonte had the most league all-stars in wrestling with four.

Bellefonte also dominated the swimming all-star picks, filling 13 of the 22 spots and producing the outstanding swimmer in both boys and girls. The only area swimmer to be honored was Central's Taylor Flaugh in the girls 200-yard freestyle.
