George R. Savine, 93, Altoona, died Monday at Van Zandt VA Medical Center after an extended illness.
He was born in Altoona, son of Michael and Antonia (Martino) Savine. He married Nan L. Savine in 1945 in Cumberland, Md., and she died March 28, 2009.
Surviving are a son, John of Pittsburgh; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Hilda Centebene in California; and a brother, Ronald and wife, Joan, of Altoona.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Starrla Burfield; three brothers: Daniel, Anthony and Henry; and two sisters: Theresa Martin and Mary Nardozza.
George attended Altoona High School. He served in the U.S. Army as a corporal during WWII, where he was wounded in battle in the European Theater. He retired from Conrail after 41 years of service, and he was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church and the American Legion.
George enjoyed golfing and trips to the beach.
At the request of the deceased, there will be no public viewing. A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by Anthony P. Scaglione Funeral Home, 1908 Seventh Ave., Altoona.
