Nellie Mae Walter, 90, Claysburg, passed away Wednesday at Nason Hospital, Roaring Spring.
She was born in Riddlesburg, daughter of the late William Edgar and Ada Susan (Himes) Troutman. She married Virgil Walter on Aug. 27, 1948, at her home in Woodcock Valley, Saxton. He passed away March 22, 1986.
Surviving are five children: Mary Susan Claycomb of Queen, Dennis of Duncansville, William of Claysburg, John and wife, Kim, of Tomahawk, Wis., and Linda Dodson and husband, Lynn, of Roaring Spring; seven grandchildren: Larry, Dennis Jr., Mary, Keely, Korry, Ali and Clay; and a brother, Clair Troutman and wife, Mary, of Everett.
She was preceded in death by an infant sister, Dora Mae; and a brother, Eugene Wendall.
Nellie was a 1940 graduate of Saxton Liberty High School and a 1944 graduate of Cumberland Memorial Nursing School. After graduation, she went to work at Nason Hospital, retiring in 1993 as a nursing supervisor.
Nellie was a member of Lower Claar Church of the Brethren, where she served as deaconess for many years and also was active in Women's Work. She enjoyed yard sales and camping.
Friends will be received from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 17, 2013, at Leslie-Miller Funeral Home, Claysburg. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 18, 2013, at Lower Claar Church of the Brethren, Pastor John Winesickle officiating. Interment will be at Lower Claar Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to her church.
