Joan Lucile (Diehl) Hamilton, 83, formerly of Duncansville, went home peacefully to be with her Lord surrounded by her family the afternoon of March 5, 2013, at The Lutheran Home at Hollidaysburg.
She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Sylvester and Ava (Freeman) Diehl. She married Thomas Hamilton on June 20, 1953, in Altoona.
Surviving are her husband, the Rev. Thomas Hamilton; two daughters: Holly Joan Hamilton and husband, Edward Rapport, of Milwaukee, Wis., and Jill Ann George and husband, Robert, of Summerhill Township; five grandchildren: Christopher Rapport, Hamilton (Kristen) George, Zach Rapport, Morgan (Aaron) Luprek and Rachel (Michael) Hannah; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Wayne Diehl of Tucson, Ariz.; and a special niece and caregiver, Deborah Diehl.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Sylvester Diehl.
Joan was a 1947 graduate of Altoona High School and attended Eastern Bible Institute, Green Lane. She was a member of Abundant Life Assembly of God, Altoona. Throughout her life, she participated in many church activities, leading women's groups, teaching Sunday school and serving as pastor's wife for many years. She was an integral part of Hamilton Church Builders, serving as office manager for 30 years.
In retirement, Joan traveled extensively by RV with her husband, and in their travels, they served with volunteer groups, building churches across the country. She enjoyed flower gardens, especially roses, and shopping and was a terrific seamstress. One of the great joys of Joan's life was her dog, Lil Darlin.
Friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 15, 2013, and 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 16, 2013, at Abundant Life Assembly of God, 231 Howard Ave., Altoona, where a funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Pastor Walt Smith officiating. Private interment will be made at Rose Hill Cemetery, Altoona, at the convenience of the family.
