Grace M. Vaughn, 89, Martinsburg, formerly of Blue Knob, passed away Friday at Homewood at Martinsburg.
She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Wade and Ethel (Biddle) McDowell. She married James P. Vaughn Sr. on Feb. 19, 1943, in San Luis Obispo, Calif. He passed away Sept. 15, 2007.
Surviving are a daughter, Karen Stombaugh and husband, Alvin, of Martinsburg; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Charles McDowell and wife, Betty, of Altoona; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, James P. Vaughn Jr. on Nov. 3, 2012.
Grace was a 1941 graduate of Altoona High School. She was a member of Mount Hope United Church of Christ, Blue Knob. She was a former Girl Scout leader and member of the Altoona Dandelions Club.
Grace enjoyed playing pinochle all her life and had a weekly game with friends even after moving to Homewood.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at Miller Funeral Home, East Freedom. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at the funeral home with Pastor Robert Penner officiating.
Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
