James R. "Slim" Ansman, 60, Altoona, died Wednesday at Altoona Regional.
He was born in Altoona, son of Elizabeth (McNulty) Ansman and the late Cletus Ansman.
Surviving are his mother of Altoona; four brothers: Jerry of Altoona, Michael of Titusville, Fla., John of Cresson and Joe of Altoona; six sisters: Mary Brodka of Pittsburgh, Sharon Caber of State College, Robin Dunklebarger of Altoona, Bonnie Merilli of Carneys Point, N.J., Barbara Diehl of Bellwood and Becky Weyant of Altoona; and many nieces and nephews.
James was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He retired on disability after working many years as a welder for Berwind, Hollidaysburg. He was a member of St. Mark's Catholic Church, and he recreated miniature battlefield set-ups and deployments.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 8, 2013, at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona, where a vigil for the deceased will be held at 7:45 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 9, 2013, at St. Mark's Catholic Church by Father Ronald Osinski. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery.
