I attended the Blair County Tea Party Resistance Rally last Saturday in front of the courthouse in Hollidaysburg.
Four speakers spoke, counting the tea party officer, who introduced the other speakers and spoke himself, at times with strong feeling.
The speakers engaged - to a man - in fear-mongering and demagoguery. The most striking words, in my opinion, were spoken by Sen. John Eichelberger. In adjacent or nearly adjacent statements, I felt he asserted that public school teachers are guilty of treason because of their willful, subversive influence on students.
Eichelberger gave no evidence his words were to be taken lightly. He delivered them with clarity and vigor. He meant what he said and on top of that seemed rather impressed by his reasoning. It would appear that labeling good people as traitors is tea-rrific in Blair County.
Move over Joe McCarthy, you have company.
