Darlene L. Walter, 85, Claysburg, passed away Wednesday at Homewood at Martinsburg.
She was born in Roaring Spring, daughter of the late Vernon and Estella (Snowberger) Stayer, and was raised in Curryville. She married Harold "Boot" Walter on April 6, 1952, at Curryville Church of the Brethren.
Surviving are her husband of 60 years; and 17 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Audra; and two brothers: Vernon and Tom.
Darlene was a 1946 graduate of Morrison Cove High School. She was employed at Bethany Hospital in Chicago, Ill., and then at Morrisons Cove Home as a nurse's aide until her marriage, when she became a farm wife, helping on the family farm in Claysburg.
Darlene was a member of Lower Claar Church of the Brethren and served as a deaconess, taught children's Sunday school and sang in the choir. During school and after, she sang and played the flute in the Pennsylvania Railroad Band and sang in Berger Baker's Choir.
Friends will be received from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, March 3, 2013, at Leslie-Miller Funeral Home, Claysburg. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 4, 2013, at Lower Claar Church of the Brethren, Pastor John E. Winesickle officiating. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to her church.
