Robert R. Sheckler, 88, Altoona, formerly of Tyrone, died Tuesday at Golden LivingCenter-Hillview.
He was born in Tyrone, son of the late Thomas and Bessie (Port) Sheckler. He married Shirley L. Meredith on Jan. 23, 1947, in New York City.
Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Shirlee Watters and husband, Denny, of Tyrone; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a stepdaughter, Pam Ringholm and husband, Doug, of Allentown; and a sister, Betty Yingling of Tyrone.
He was preceded in death by a son, Robert; a brother, Thomas; and a sister, Dolly Perrine.
Bob was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII, serving as a watertender first class. He retired in 1987 from Chicago Rivet, Tyrone, as a machinist after 40 years of service. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and the Tyrone Elks.
Bob was a family man and enjoyed his grandchildren and gardening.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 1, 2013, at Feller Memorial Home, Tyrone, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 2, 2013, Pastor Jason Guillaume officiating. The Tyrone Honor Guard will provide veteran's honors for the service.
