Evelyn I. Miller, 86, Golden LivingCenter-Hillview, died Tuesday surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Tyrone, daughter of the late Orlando H. and Ida (Turner) Andrews. She married Jack Leroy Miller on March 3, 1956, and he preceded her in death July 21, 1989.
Surviving are five children: Brian Ray Bessemer (Janet) in California, Thomas L. Miller (Sally Jones-Miller) of Canoe Creek, John S. Miller (Becky) of Altoona, Jo Marie Vaughn (Glenn Holland) of Altoona and Gina Ann Detwiler (Robert) of Altoona; 17 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three brothers: Joseph J., Max O. and Paul M.; and three sisters: Marie I., Myrtle and Josephine.
Evelyn was a graduate of Tyrone High School. She was employed as a nurse's aide during the Korean War and as a secretary for an attorney, and she volunteered at Altoona Hospital. She attended Broad Avenue United Methodist Church in Altoona. She enjoyed crafts, knitting and sewing, and she loved doing puzzles and fishing.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013, at E. Merrill Smith Funeral Home Inc., 2309 Broad Ave., Altoona, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 25, 2013, the Rev. Peggy J. Bonsell officiating. Interment will be at Blair Memorial Park.
