Kenneth E. Kelley, 83, Duncansville, passed away unexpectedly Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, at his residence.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late William L. and Mary E. Kelley.
Surviving are a son, David and wife, Sue, of Swanton, Md.; a sister, Marlene Sheasley and husband, Dan, of Roaring Spring; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Paul; and a sister, Donna Lou Bowser.
Immediately from Altoona High School, Kenneth entered the U.S. Marine Corps and served in the Korean War. Proud of being a Marine, he could always be seen wearing his hat. Because of his German heritage and love of music, he sang with the Washington Saengerbund, a German choral society. He was an accomplished public speaker and an active member with Toastmasters International and was about to be awarded with its highest level of achievement.
Kenneth enjoyed being a foster grandparent at Foot of Ten Elementary School the most. He praised the staff and felt privileged to work with them, and he really loved working with the children and talked about them fondly. To him, they were his grandchildren. He cared about them, and he was especially proud to be called "Grandpa Kelley." He was a man we can be proud of, and he will be missed.
At Ken's request, funeral arrangements will be private at Miller Funeral Home, East Freedom.
