HOLLIDAYSBURG - Blair County leaders will promote the assistant director of elections to fill the position left vacant by the recent death of Ingrid Healy-Tucker.
The salary board, consisting of the commissioners and Controller Richard J. Peo, agreed Monday with plans to promote Sarah A. Seymour to director of elections, at $30,000 annually, and to open the assistant director of elections job with a salary range between $23,660 to $27,000.
Commissioner Diane Meling made the recommendation to the salary board, which meets monthly to set salary ranges and starting salaries for vacant county jobs.
Meling's recommended putting Seymour in the post immediately because of the upcoming primary schedule and its large number of municipal and school board candidates.
"We need someone who knows what she's doing," Meling said.
Seymour has worked in the elections office since 2008 with Healy-Tucker, who died Feb. 2 at Altoona Hospital. She had been diagnosed with colon cancer in November 2011 and went on medical leave on Jan. 3.
Meling praised Healy-Tucker for the training she provided to Seymour.
Peo added his praise too and said it's nice for the county to be that position.
"We had somebody ready to move into that job," Peo said.
