Carl W. Christman, 84, Orwigsburg, formerly of Lenhartsville, died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, in Orwigsburg Center, where he had been a resident for several years.
He was born in Maxatawny Township, Berks County, son of the late Herbert T. and Mary Alice (Kohler) Christman. He married Jean R. Koch, who died Dec. 23, 2011.
Surviving are a daughter, Diane J. (Christman) Smith and husband, Leon G., of Kutztown; a daughter-in-law, Susan L. (Reimert) Christman of Lenhartsville; five grandchildren: Troy D. Christman and wife, Kimberly (Waits), Heather L. (Christman) Gruber and husband, Todd M., Desirae C. Christman, Nathan D. Christman and wife, Lindsay N. (Freymoyer), and Andrew R. Smith; five great-grandchildren: Connor M. and Mason T. Gruber, Emma C. and Cole T. Christman and Logan H. Christman-Warke; and three sisters: Anita L. (Christman) Bastian of Wernersville, Carole A. (Christman) Koch and husband, Harry, of Allentown and Jannetta L. (Christman) Metz of Allentown.
He was preceded in death by a son, Dennis C., on Jan. 16, 2013; three sisters: Mary Alice Dries, Dorothy G. Phillips and Gladys A. Bleiler; three brothers: Paul R., Lester H. and David K.; and two brothers-in-law: Edward Bastian and Jack Metz.
Carl was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving his country in WWII. He was a self-employed farmer in Lenhartsville for many years. He was a member of Kempton Fire Company and Strausstown Rod and Gun Club.
Friends will be received from 6 until the 7 p.m. memorial service Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, at Ludwick Funeral Homes Inc., 333 Greenwich St., Kutztown, the Rev. Randy A. Bond officiating. Inurnment will be private at the convenience of the family.
