Salyards propels Bears

Jonah Salyards had a game-high 19 points for Great Commission as it defeated Blair County Christian, 68-27, in high school boys basketball on Friday.

Kirth Benson chipped in 14 points for the Bears, and Gary Nixon led Blair County with 10.

Great Commission will go on to compete in the ACAA state tournament February 14-16.

Spikes to raise funds

STATE COLLEGE - The State College Spikes will help raise funds for the Penn State chapter of Coaches vs. Cancer with a silent auction of sports memorabilia, experiences and other items as part of Sunday's SpikesFest event.

SpikesFest 2013 will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Penn State Indoor Multi-Sport Facility.

Memorabilia collectors will enjoy the opportunity to bid on rare collectible items such as a Michael Jordan-autographed University of North Carolina basketball jersey; autographed balls and/or bats from current and former MLB stars like Cal Ripken, Nolan Ryan, Stan Musial, Stephen Strasburg and Bryce Harper; and other items from current sports stars such as Robert Griffin III, Rory McIlroy, Jeff Gordon, Manny Pacquiao and more.
