Richard N. "Dick" Chilcote, 82, formerly of South Third Street, Altoona, died Saturday evening at The Lutheran Home at Hollidaysburg.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Isaac N. and Ada (Ott) Chilcote. He married Patricia A. Barry on July 3, 1953, in Altoona. She preceded him in death on January 31, 2008.
Surviving are four children: a daughter, Traci L. Chilcote O'Neal of Altoona, a son, R. Scott Chilcote and wife, Maria, of Springfield, Va., a son, Bruce E. Chilcote and wife, Sharli, of Altoona, a son, Steven M. and wife, Melania, of Wilmington, Del.; eight grandchildren: Jesse Dill, Shane and Trisha O'Neal, Francesca, Gabriella, Kara, Melissa and Sarah Chilcote; four great-grandchildren: Kathryn, Hannah, Colin and Liam; and a sister, Barbara Suzanne Slagle and husband, Harley, of Bellemead.
Dick was preceded in death by sisters: Sarah Chilcote, Carol Porter and Sylvia Leader; and a brother, Bob Chilcote.
Mr. Chilcote was a member of Altoona First Church of the Brethren, where he sang in the choir, served as deacon and served in various other capacities.
He was a 1949 graduate of Altoona High School and was a graduate of Penn State University with a degree in civil engineering.
Dick retired as a civil engineer from PennDOT in 2000. He had previously been employed by Gwin, Dobson and Foreman for 23 years.
He was a United States Marine Corps veteran serving during the Korean Conflict from 1950 to 1953.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking and welding.
Dick was a former member of the Heidelberg Country Club.
Friends will be received from 10 a.m. to 12 noon on Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc., 501 Sixth Ave., Altoona, where a funeral service will be held at noon with Pastor Bill Pepper officiating. Interment will be made at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery.
