JOHNSTOWN - Manny Span's putback with 4.8 seconds remaining in the game lifted the Altoona Area High School boys basketball team past Bishop McCort, 47-46, on Saturday night.

McCort's Bill Hipp fired up a shot at the buzzer but missed it. Altoona improved to 8-9, while McCort dropped to 10-6.

Tony Acrie led the Mountain Lions, who were playing without injured DeShae Lee, with 15 points, Span collected 10 points and 15 rebounds, and Matt Dry scored 10 points.

Hipp and Nemo Trexler each scored 14 points for McCort.

Altoona, which trailed 22-15 at halftime before rallying in the third quarter, hosts Mifflin County on Monday night.

TYRONE - Tyrone jumped out to a 38-21 advantage in the first half of play and coasted to a non-league victory over Mount Union.

Jordan Miller led the Golden Eagles with 21 points and four steals, Brandon Gripp delivered 17 points and 10 assists, and Wyatt Fowler grabbed eight rebounds.

Tyrone improved to 13-4, and Mount Union, which received 22 points from Klayton Heffner, fell to 10-8.

JOHNSTOWN - Bishop Carroll had just 16 points at halftime but rallied past Richland to improve its record to 15-2.

Scott Ranck scored 23 points, and Brandon Martinazzi added 21 for the Huskies who were tied at 11-11 afte one quarter of play in the Laurel Highlands Athletic Conference non-sectional game.

"We had a couple guys that started hitting key shots," Bishop Carroll coach Cosie Aliquo said. "We only had 16 points at the half, but we came out real strong and with a purpose in the third quarter and tied the game up going into the fourth."

Richland, which scored just nine points in the third quarter, fell to 8-8.
