According to Andrea R. Young, public affairs officer of the Public Affairs Officer of the James E. Van Zandt VA Medical Center, the facility has 28 licensed acute hospital beds and 40 Community Living Center (CLC) beds.
It served 24,824 unique Veterans in Fiscal Year 2012.
The Van Zandt Center offers a full range of outpatient primary care, specialty care (dental, optometry, audiology) as well as radiology, behavioral health, and physical medicine and rehabilitation services. It also operates an emergency room 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Like all other VA medical centers and private hospitals, there are certain services that are referred to the larger Pittsburgh VA Healthcare System. Pittsburgh offers the more advanced treatments such as cancer, transplants, cardiology and other specialty services.
The VA medical centers in Erie, Butler, Clarksburg, WV also send patients to Pittsburgh for these services.
