Donald Thomas Burgess, 67, Altoona, went home to be with the Lord Sunday evening at Altoona Regional surrounded by his family and friends.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Donald E. Burgess and Mary Ilene (Hufford) Burgess Royer. He was twice married, first to Joan E. Trexler on Feb. 6, 1965, then to Lorna Hughes on Aug. 29, 1987, in Hornell, N.Y.
Surviving are his wife, Lorna; three daughters: Cindy L. Zeak and husband, Michael, of Altoona, Dawn L. Falzarano and husband, Brian, of North Huntingdon and Tonya J. Burgess of Altoona; four grandchildren: Michael and Samantha Zeak and Taylor and Colynn Falzarano; and three siblings: Barbara Benton and husband, Chuck, and Don's twin, Ronald J., all of Altoona, and Terry L. and wife, Nancy, of York.
Don attended Tyrone Area High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Vietnam era. He had been employed as a manager in the electrical motor shop at Morrison-Knudsen Co., Hornell, N.Y., and previously had been employed at Road Machinery in Arizona. He attended Abundant Life Assembly of God and was a member of the Bavarian Aid Society.
Don enjoyed cooking, gardening, hunting, fishing, antiques, auctions, NASCAR and his church.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc., 501 Sixth Ave., Altoona, and 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, at Abundant Life Assembly of God, Pastor Walt Smith officiating. Interment will be made at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Altoona.
