Corbett deal ‘win-win’

January 25, 2013
The Altoona Mirror

Gov. Corbett is correct in trying to contract out the Pennsylvania lottery.

Profits from the lottery go to help fund services for our senior citizens. Unfortunately, profits often fall short.

The private company that has offered to purchase the lottery has agreed to put $200 million in collateral to ensure the profit goals are reached. This is insurance that will save the legislature from having to raise taxes.

The private company who had bid on the lottery will not make any money for itself unless they first raise the money for our seniors.

If we keep the current system as is, it will mean we need to cut services or raise taxes, because the current system cannot keep pace with Pennsylvania's senior population.

This deal proposed by our Governor is a win-win for Pennsylvania's senior citizens and the taxpayers. I applaud Gov. Corbett in his effort to make Pennsylvania's lottery work better for us all.
