C-K’s Kitt ready to step down

January 21, 2013
The Altoona Mirror

It appears Claysburg-Kimmel High School will have a new football coach for the 2013 season.

According to sources, Joe Kitt, who has guided the Bulldogs for the past six seasons, has turned in his resignation.

Kitt took over for Jeff Lingenfelter in 2007 and posted an 18-39 mark at Claysburg, going 4-6 last season. The Bulldogs went to the District 6 Class A playoffs in 2008 and 2011 while he was at the helm.

Kitt wouldn't confirm his resignation or comment on it, nor would C-K athletic director Josh Klausman. However, no one denied it, either.

"At this time, right now, no comment," Klausman said. "Nothing is official, not until February, and I won't comment on anything until the board meets again."

Claysburg would be the second football coaching opening in the area this offseason. Penn Cambria is expected to name a new coach at its February school board meeting after Ernie Fetzer stepped down late in the 2012 season.
