Alice Helen Jones, 101, formerly of Altoona, died Wednesday morning at Brevillier Village, Erie, where she had resided since 2004.
She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late David and Lottie (Filer) Jones.
Surviving are a nephew, Darryl Bush and wife, Elaine, of Erie; a great-niece, Dianne Royal and husband, Daron, of Erie and their daughters, Olivia, Victoria and Alexandra; and a great-nephew, David Bush and wife, Teresa, of Delmar, Del., and their daughter, Madelyn.
She was preceded in death by two sisters: Ora Jones and Charlotte Bush; and a brother-in-law, Gerald Bush.
Alice worked for several employers as a housekeeper and child-care provider. She worked for a number of years at the Jaffa Shrine before working as a seamstress at Saf-T-Bak, from which she retired in 1977 with 22 years of service.
Alice was the last living charter member of the former Pleasant Valley EUB Church and remained a member through the formation of the United Methodist Church and the congregation's merger with East End United Methodist Church. She sang in the choir and taught Sunday school and vacation Bible school classes for many years at the Pleasant Valley Church. She was well known for her flannel-board illustrated Bible stories and was well loved by the many children who grew up in that congregation.
She enjoyed reading and doing puzzles.
Friends will be received from 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, at Gilden Barton Funeral Home, 1401 Ninth Ave., Altoona, Pastor Arthur D. Shotts officiating. Interment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery.
