Lois Wolf of Hollidaysburg has contributed to a different kind of devotional - one that talks about the emotions and experiences of prison life.
"Stories of Faith and Courage From Prison," contains 365 contributions from the viewpoint of the incarcerated, their families and prison staff.
Wolf, whose daughter Kim Hricko has been in prison for 15 years in Jessup, Md., wrote two of the devotionals and Hricko wrote two.
Wolf said she agreed to write the devotionals in hope that her experiences would help others. She said the book is not just for prisoners but anyone who would be encouraged by the daily readings.
She recalls how confusing it was when the police arrived at her door back then, and she had no idea of her daughter's arrest.
Hricko also had a daughter Anna who came to live with the Wolfs because her mother was in prison facing felony charges.
A child in elementary school at the time, Anna asked her grandmother for her Bible in the midst of all the uncertainity.
Wolf writes about that experience in her devotional, "A Little Child will Lead Us," with a Scripture reference to Lamentations 3:22-23.
Her other one is about the conclusion of the trial when Wolf expresses that she does not know her daughter's destiny, but knows that in Christ she is free with Psalm 37:39 as the Scripture.
She said Hricko's devotionals are called "Control is an Illusion" and "Read the Psalms and See."
The first one is about how Hricko tried to run her own life and realized she can't do it, Wolf said.
The second one is about no matter what a person has done, he or she is not beyond God's love, she said.
Wolf said she was contacted about contributing to the book by Connie Cameron, who along with Jeff Peck, compiled the contributions and added the Scriptures.
The book is an imprint of God and Country Press, AMG publishers. It is available at AMGpublishers
