Jordan Kirsch: Messiah golf

January 17, 2013
The Altoona Mirror

Name: Jordan Kirsch

High school: Hollidaysburg

Hometown: Hollidaysburg

Sport: Golf

College choice: Messiah College

Other colleges considered: Bethel, Cedarville, Malone, Robert Morris

Why I picked Messiah: "I wanted to go to a Christian college that had strong academics as well as a good golf program. After my weekend visit with the team and golf coach, I knew it was a good fit for me. The coach and teammates made me feel very welcome, and I am looking forward to being a part of a great program. The size and location of the school were also important factors in determining where I wanted to go to school.''

Greatest high school achievements: Being selected as the Altoona Mirror's Athlete of the Week, having seven first-place finishes, shooting a 3-under-par 69 at Sinking Valley for Sectionals, being selected as an Altoona Mirror golf all-star for the season and tied for second place out of 70 golfers at Sunnehanna Country Club for the Wheeling Invitational.

Coach Bryan James's quote: "Jordan has been an integral part of the Golden Tiger golf team during his time at Hollidaysburg, and I look for his athletic abilities, competitive nature and passion for the game to translate into a successful career at the collegiate level. I wish him the best of luck in all future academic and golf-related endeavors."

How I got my start playing golf: "I started playing when I was young and played with my mom and dad and my grandparents. I also took lessons from Jonathan Madey at Blair County Golf, and he really got me ready to play competitive high school golf.

Favorite college growing up: North Carolina

Other interests: Tennis, basketball, fishing and hanging out with family and friends

What getting to play in college means: It has always been a dream of mine to play in college, so to be given this opportunity means so much to me. I have always loved competing, and I am really looking forward to competing at the collegiate level.
