‘Stop and smell roses’

January 15, 2013
The Altoona Mirror

We spend a lifetime working hard to attain the good job, new car, new house and belongings to go within.

The more we get, the more we want. The quest is never-ending. When we attain some of these things, along comes more and, maybe, better things to tempt us. All things we think we must have, but when we get them, we move on to other things that attract our interest.

Then, one day you wake up and discover you're old, you hurt, and maybe the real things you should have put your time into, are the things you took for granted. We've all done it at one time or another.

Take a moment to wipe away a child's tears and give a gentle hug. Take the time to see if a neighbor may need some help that would mean so much to them.

Strive to do at least one good deed a day. Make a difference in someone's life.

We all have busy lives, but we need to take a breather and grasp the Christmas feeling throughout the entire year.

What seems like a small gesture to you, may mean everything to someone else.

Repair relationships. Life really is so short.

The recent tragedy our country is experiencing should be a wake-up call to each of us to stop and smell the roses.

No one really knows what tomorrow will bring. Take one day at a time and try to make it the best day you can.
