William F. "Bill" Hite, 78, Newry, died Saturday morning at The Village at Morrisons Cove after a short battle with cancer.
He was born in Newry, son of the late Ralph and Sara (Rhodes) Hite.
He is survived by six children: Carl Hite of Fishertown, Lisa Becker of Altoona, Bill Hite of Newry, Christine Hite of Florida, Ruth Beckner of Somerset and Kathy Myers of Donnertown; 14 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Joseph of Delaware; and a sister, Rita Hurt of Florida.

He was preceded in death by his wife, E. Joanne; six siblings; and a grandson, Stephen Hite.
Bill was a Hollidaysburg High School graduate.
He was a very devoted farmer in Newry all of his life and was known locally as 'Corn King Sr.'
He was a faithful member of St. Patrick Church, Newry.
In his younger years, he was a member of the Newry Twilight Baseball League, where he was a pitcher.
He enjoyed watching sports, especially his grandchildren's games.
Friends will be received from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, at the Liebegott-Brown Funeral Home Inc., 1218 Fourth Ave, Duncansville. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, at St. Patrick Church, officiated by Monsignor Anthony B. Little.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society of Blair County.
