Barbara L. Berardinelli, 72, Altoona, died Thursday at Homewood at Martinsburg after an extended illness.
She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late James F. and Helen S. (Tobler) Kepner. She married Dr. John L. Berardinelli on March 12, 1966, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Surviving are her husband; three children: James F. (Bernadette) of Philadelphia, David J. (Alicia) of Pittsburgh and Elizabeth A. Berardinelli-Breedlove (Larry) of Altoona; a grandson, Abraham J. Breedlove; and two sisters: Patricia K. Silverman and Linda K. Davis, both of Altoona.
Barbara was a 1958 graduate of Altoona High School, a 1962 graduate of Juniata College and a 1963 graduate of the University of Indiana. She retired in 1999 as a chemistry teacher from the Altoona Area School District after 10 years of service. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and also belonged to the Blair County Retired Teachers Organization and Blair County Medical Society Auxiliary.
Barbara enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, hiking, camping, cooking, reading, especially reading to her grandson, Abraham, and spending time with her friends and family.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery.
