Rose Ann Quartz, 89, a recent resident of Garvey Manor Nursing Home, Hollidaysburg, formerly of 1637 St. Francis Lane, Altoona, and 225 Sprankle Ave., Lakemont, died Tuesday morning at the home after a brief illness.

She was born in Amsbry, daughter of the late Jacob and Anna (Koeck) Finklestine. She married Herman J. Quartz on July 9, 1960, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Coupon, and he died Aug. 27, 2000.

Surviving are a daughter, Anna Rose Eckenrode and husband, Robert Anthony "Tony," of Altoona; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren: Ashley Pattillo and husband, Tyson, and their children, Tyanna and Tyson Jr., Anthony Eckenrode, and Alyssa Eckenrode and her daughter, Aleia; a sister, Mary Plewa of Harrisburg; and a brother, Marty Finklestine of Gallitzin and Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

She was preceded in death by six siblings: Aggie Mikolajczyk, Catherine Bono and John, Donald, Leo and Jacob Finklestine Jr.

Rose retired as a supervisor in 1986 from Antmart, Portage, after 10 years of service. She was a member of the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Altoona. She enjoyed her grandchildren, the family dog, Haley, lottery tickets and playing bingo.

Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Jones Funeral Home, where a vigil for the deceased will be celebrated at 8 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Altoona. Committal rites will be held at Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, 1 Cathedral Square, Altoona, PA 16601.
