Jennie Virginia Calabrese, 103, of IDA Tower, Altoona, and a recent resident of Garvey Manor Nursing Home, Hollidaysburg, died Sunday evening at the home after a brief illness.
She was born in Monongahela City, daughter of the late Luigi and Josephine (Borino) Vigliotti. She married Ignazio J. "Nozzie" Calabrese on June 1, 1939, in Blairsville, and he died March 21, 1947.
Surviving are a daughter, Nancy Ann Jones and husband, Patrick T., of Altoona; seven grandchildren: Susan (DeNardo) Portugal and husband, Joe, Robin (DeNardo) Burns and husband, Greg, Patrick T. Jones II and wife, Carolyn, Dr. Scott E. Jones and wife, Susan, Jennifer A. (Jones) Hite and husband, James, Adam T. Jones and wife, Amanda, and Stephanie A. (Jones) Suppa and husband, John; and 21 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by an infant son, Michael Calabrese; a daughter, Josephine "Sandy" DeNardo, on Jan. 7, 2003; and six siblings: Alice Staff and Alphonse, Michael, Andrew, James and Anthony Vigliotti.
Jennie retired in 1972 as a sewing machine operator at Warnaco, Altoona, and previously had worked at RSL Shuttlecocks and Juniata Silk Mill. She was a member of the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Altoona.
Jennie was a devoted mother and grandmother and very devoted to prayer and God. She enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and friends and playing bingo.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at Jones Funeral Home, where a vigil for the deceased will be celebrated during the visitation. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Altoona, Monsignor Robert C. Mazur officiating. Committal rites will be held at Calvary Cemetery, Altoona.
