William Habacivch, 77, of 6331 Stephens Crossing, Mechanicsburg, passed away Friday at Harrisburg Hospital.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Frank and Anna (Raftovich) Habacivch. He married Rita Ann Delricco on Aug. 31, 1957, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years; four sons: William (Susan) of Mechanicsburg, Daniel (Tracy) of Lancaster, Brian (Johna) of Louisville, Ky., and Richard of Mechanicsburg; nine grandchildren; two sisters: Mary Ann (John) Giblock and Florine (William) Chestney, both of Altoona; and a brother-in-law, Charles Chestney of Altoona. He is also survived by his extremely close nephew, James Colombo; and numerous other nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Rita May Chestney.
William received a B.S. and master's degree in economics from Penn State University and a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Illinois in Urbana, Ill. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and retired in 1957 as a disabled veteran. He retired as a senior economist from the Joint State Government Commission of Pennsylvania and also was a professor of economics at the University of Delaware.
William was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Mechanicsburg. He served as past president of the Carlisle Chapter of Trout Unlimited, was a life member of the Carlisle Fish and Game Association and was a member of the Blair County Game, Fish and Forestry Association in Riggles Gap. He was an avid fly fisherman who also enjoyed hunting and reading.
Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Santella Funeral Home, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery with full military honors.
