John Stewart Lord, 88, formerly of Hollidaysburg, died Friday at Homewood at Martinsburg.
He was born in Morrisville, son of John Stewart and Marie (Gabore) Lord. He married Katherine S. Schroeder on Nov. 13, 1945, and she died April 7, 2011.
Surviving are two daughters: Elizabeth Lockerby of Washington, D.C., and Lynore of Kennesaw, Ga.; four sons: John Jr. and wife, Linda, of Altoona, Peter and wife, Laurie, of Hollidaysburg, Stephen and wife, Sue, of Northport, Fla., and Christopher and wife, Lisa, of Birmingham, Ala.; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers.
John was a graduate of Morrisville High School and a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII. He was employed at the Samuel Rae Shop and Conrail as a trainmaster. He was a past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Star of the Sea Council 4245 and a past Faithful Navigator Fourth Degree, Knights of Columbus, Bishop Garvey Assembly 0916.
John was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg, where he served as an usher and Eucharistic minister. He was also a stamp collector.
Friends will be received from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, at Sorge Funeral Home Inc., Hollidaysburg. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg, by Father Clement G. Gardner. Committal will be at Greenlawn Cemetery, Hollidaysburg.
