Norma B. Cowher, 88, Queen, went home to be with the Lord Saturday at The Village at Morrisons Cove after an extended illness.
She was born in Queen, daughter of the late Harvey and Mary (Hoenstine) Claar. She married Sherwood "Buck" Cowher on May 27, 1944, in Elkton, Md. He passed away Sept. 22, 2000.
Surviving are a daughter, Deena Smith of Alum Bank; two sons: Dennis and wife, Nellie, of Queen and Monte and wife, Ann, of Imler; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister, Zella Dellinger and husband, Jack, of Sproul.
She was preceded in death by a son, Dan; a son-in-law, Lyle Smith; six sisters: Ora Conrad, Sylvia Benton, Alda Markle, Rena Mylin, Bracy McDonald and Jean Osborn; and six brothers: Theodore, Percy, Emil, Russell, Rudy and James Claar.
Mrs. Cowher was a 1942 graduate of Claysburg High School. She was a member of the Greenfield United Church of Christ.
Norma was a homemaker and enjoyed her family, pets, reading and puzzles.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at Leslie-Miller Funeral Home, Claysburg. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, at Greenfield United Church of Christ with Pastor Robert Penner officiating.
