Eleanor (Smith) Clapper, 92, Epworth Manor, Tyrone, formerly of 1302 Robin Lane, Duncansville, died Monday at the Manor after enduring a long, dignified struggle with Alzheimer's disease.
She was born in Hollidaysburg, daughter of the late Guy H. and Olive (Stewart) Smith. She married John S. Clapper on Sept. 14, 1943, in Blackstone, Va., and he passed away on Sept. 5, 1998.
Surviving are two daughters: Susan C. Dickman (Ronald) of Duncansville and Melissa C. Burkholder of Katy, Texas; and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, W. Stewart Smith.
Eleanor was a graduate of Hollidaysburg High School and the Altoona School for Secretaries. Her employment included the Hollidaysburg Trust Co., as well as being secretary to the superintendent of the Hollidaysburg Public Schools and secretary to the board of directors of the County Capital Building and Loan Association.
She was a life member of First Presbyterian Church of Hollidaysburg, where she served as an elder and Sunday school teacher and on various committees. She also served as past president of the Hollidaysburg Women's Club.
Eleanor was very proud of the fact that she and her family members were direct descendents of the Holliday family, founders of Hollidaysburg.
There will be no public visitation. Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be at Presbyterian Cemetery, Hollidaysburg.
