John D. Swogger, 77, Grandview Road, Bellwood, died Tuesday at Altoona Regional Emergency Department.
He was born in Ellwood City, son of the late Nelson and Martha (Patterson) Swogger. He married Sally Stover on June 1, 1957, in Wilkinsburg.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years; six children: Tamre O'Donnell (Tim) of Pittsburgh, Mathew (Leah Hollingworth) of Los Angeles, Calif., John of Altoona, Marcie Kepley (Charles) of Roanoke, Va., and Jimmy (Bree Tyler) and Chad (Renee McAlevy), both of Bellwood; 19 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Donna Cory (John) of New Castle.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Mike.
John loved and was happiest with his family around him and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed teaching area youth the game of basketball. In addition, he was an avid and highly accomplished beagler.
Friends will be received from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012, and 9 to 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, at First Church of Christ, Juniata Gap, where a funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. Monday, the Rev. John Collins officiating. Committal will be at Grandview Cemetery, Altoona.
