Feeling overtaxed

December 28, 2012
The Altoona Mirror

Why are we dumb enough to elect people, who cannot get a job anywhere, to run our lives for us? These people are there because they were elected by us.

I think it's about time for us to wake up and smell the roses. If the American public needs unions to do the work for them so they can have an income, so be it. That is their choice. But I believe that if a union wants to be in charge, let it collect the dues. Unions shouldn't expect the people they are hammering to collect their money for them.

I spent 16 years in a major union, and all they ever did for me was to take my money and tell me how good it was. I made my way myself .

The American public deserves better. We, the so-called little people, earn our income and pay taxes on it. We pay taxes for the schools, for local government, for county government, for the state and for the federal government. We also pay taxes on gasoline and groceries, as well as an added tax on payroll for use of area and local pension funds. Plus, there are taxes on our bills for natural gas, electric, sewer and water. Is this enough tax?

All of these taxes are paid so that the people we elect can have an income, a retirement income and all the perks they can get. Remember we elected them; they make the rules; and we pay the bills. When will we get smart?

I worked since I was 11. I paid into my pension plan for more than 70 years, and now I am still supporting those who depend on others to keep them on a job and pay for their pension plan. When will it quit?
