Virginia M. ‘Peach’ (Smith) Neal Johns

Virginia M. "Peach" (Smith) Neal Johns, 87, Altoona, died Monday morning at Altoona Regional after a brief illness.

She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Charles Murray and Elizabeth H. (Neil) Smith. She first married Blair C. Neal and then married Charles T. Johns, both of whom preceded her in death.

Surviving are four children: a daughter, April Neal of Altoona, a son, Steve Neal of Altoona, a son, Dave Neal and wife, Faith, of Duncansville and a daughter, Roxanne Barr and husband, Tim, of Altoona; six grandchildren: Cindy Shoemaker, Stewart Neal, Leslie Neal, David Neal, Elizabeth Barr and Catherine Wallace; three great-grandchildren: Sara Ferry, Robbie Shoemaker and Destiny Wallace; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, Larry Neal; a grandson, Robert Shoemaker; and five siblings.

Virginia retired from Weis Markets after 17 years of service. She was previously employed as an assembler at Sylvania for 33 years. She was a member of Sylvania Employees Association.

Virginia enjoyed boating and camping at Raystown Lake, playing pinochle, crafts and her cat, Kitty.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today and 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc., 501 Sixth Ave., Altoona, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday with Pastor John Collins officiating.

Interment will be made at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery.
