Marjorie M. Carothers, 88, formerly of Altoona and Elmcroft of Altoona, died Monday at Altoona Regional after an extended illness.
She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Arthur W. and Emma B. (Foust) Mattern. She married Richard A. Carothers on July 15, 1955, at Broad Avenue Presbyterian Church, Altoona.
Surviving are her husband; a daughter, Jane L. Carothers and husband, Dewey Adams, of Altoona; a son, James R. Carothers and wife, Carlene, of Altoona; and two grandchildren: Ian R. Adams and Sarah J. Adams.

Mrs. Carothers was a 1941 graduate of Altoona High School, a 1944 graduate of Penn State College and a 1951 graduate of Penn State College, earning a master's degree in education. She taught business at Johnstown High School from 1944-49 and taught business education at Altoona High School from 1949-60. She also taught evening business classes for adults at Penn State Extension.
She was a member of Providence Presbyterian Church of Altoona. She was also a member of Penn State Alumni Association, Altoona YWCA, Delphi Chapter No. 65, Eastern Star, Dorcas Temple No. 121, Daughters of the Nile and Delta Pi Epsilon, a business education fraternal organization.
Marjorie enjoyed her grandchildren, traveling and reading.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, at The Good Funeral Home Inc., where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, officiated by the Rev. Dennis Braun.
Interment will be in Alto-Reste Park Cemetery.
