The snow and ice that entered the area on Wednesday morning has forced the postponement of most of the high school sports schedule for this evening.
All four area basketball tournaments had been pushed back. Cambria Heights waited until 4 p.m. before eventually deciding to postpone the opening night of its boys tournament.
The Blue Pirate Boosters Holiday Tournament at Williamsburg and the County Seat Tournament at Central Cambria on the boys side, as well as the Huntingdon Lions Tournament, which has both boys and girls brackets, moved their opening round games from tonight to Thursday evening. The consy and finals at the County Seat Tournament will be played on Saturday afternoon.
Because of a scheduling conflict for later in the week, the organizers for the Huntingdon Lions Tournament will play all eight games on Thursday, beginning with Juniata Valley taking on Mount Union girls at 10 a.m. and concluding with the boys championship, scheduled for 8:30 p.m.
All eight teams will play twice in 12 hours.
"It actually reminds me of when we go play summer league games," Huntingdon coach Nick Payne said. "They schedule you to play two games a day so you don't have to travel.
"With the big court, it's going to be interesting. We're going to have to be in condition. That's going to be for all the teams."
