Dale R. Caswell, 72, of Bellwood died Saturday at Altoona Regional.

He was born in Altoona, son of the late Raymond C. and Sarah E. (Siters) Caswell. He was married to Sandra L. (Cyphers) and she died on Feb. 21, 2003.

Surviving are two sons: Scott A. and Derrick "Rick" Caswell, both of Bellwood; a daughter, Julie L. Hollingsworth of Altoona.; five grandchildren: Zachary, Brandy, Nikita and Tiffany Caswell and John Hollingsworth; four great-grandchildren: Lilah, Jokasta, Cody and Kayla; a sister, Linda McFarland of Antis Township; and his companion and friend, Sharon Chilcoat.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Michael.

Dale retired as a U.S. Marine Corps staff sergeant in 1978 after 20 years of service. He was a combat veteran in the Vietnam War, who served with Alpha Company, 3rd Marine Division. Dale was a recipient of a Bronze Star Medal and was awarded a Purple Heart. After retirement, he worked in the construction industry for different companies. He last worked as an inspector for Stiffler, McGraw & Associates, Hollidaysburg.

He was president of the United Veterans Association, Bellwood, and a member of the John M. Anderson American Legion, Bellwood, the International Hot Rod Association and AMVETS.

Dale enjoyed drag racing and was the driver for his race team. He also enjoyed watching football.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec, 26, 2012, at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home, Bellwood. Committal rites with military honors will be at 11 a.m., Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, at Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
