Recently it has come to our attention that the soccer fields at Valley View may be sold by the county along with the Valley View home.
We have children who play AYSO soccer on that field, and there is a very high likelihood that if the fields are sold that they will no longer have that opportunity.
There are over 500 local children who play in the local AYSO, and that recreational outlet is very affordable to families in our area because the AYSO has fields available to them through the county.
It would be a shame to lose the opportunity to play soccer in Altoona if the fields are sold.
Soccer is one of the largest and fastest growing sports in the US, and one that many, many local children participate in.
With all the emphasis on keeping children active and healthy, it does not make sense for the county to remove a recreational area that is seeing a lot of use and turn it into simply another land parcel as part of the sale of the home.
I encourage everyone to request that the commissioners keep the fields for recreational use for everyone in Altoona, rather than selling them with the Valley View home.
