DA: Gunman's death ruled 'justifiable homicide'

GEESEYTOWN -- The shooting of the gunman in Friday's rampage that left three people dead on Juniata Valley Road was a justifiable homicide, the Blair County District Attorney's Office said Saturday.

Jeffrey Lee Michael, 44, of Hollidaysburg was killed during a gun battle with three troopers.

Michael killed Kimberly A. Scott, 58, of Duncansville, Kenneth Lynn, 60, of Hollidaysburg, and William Rhodes Jr., 38, also of Hollidaysburg, police said.

Scott was killed at Juniata Valley Gospel Church where she was decorating for a children's Christmas party. Lynn died at his home and Rhodes was killed after Michael intentionally rammed his pickup truck into him and then shot him to death.

Michael fired at two state police vehicles as they drove past him on Juniata Valley Road, police said. He then crashed head-on into a cruiser and then was rear-ended by a second cruiser. He exited his truck and shot again at troopers, who then returned fire and killed him.

Mirror reporters are working on a story for Sunday's newspaper.
