Pleasy Phyllis Stonerook, 86, formerly of rural Martinsburg, passed away Friday morning at Homewood at Martinsburg after an extended illness.
She was born in Martinsburg, daughter of the late C. Oren and Ruth (Provins) Whetstone. She married Earl P. Stonerook on Sept. 21, 1944, in Martinsburg, and he passed away July 16, 2006.
Surviving are two daughters: Jeanette K. Fleegle and husband, Roger, of rural Martinsburg and Dorothy M. Ickes and husband, Scott, of Weaver, Iowa; a son, Donald L. and wife, Jill, of rural Martinsburg; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a brother, Dr. Charles L. Whetstone of Detroit, Mich.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy.
Along with her husband, Pleasy assisted in the daily operation of the family dairy farm near Martinsburg, but she was also actively employed as a nurse's aide at Nason Hospital, Roaring Spring, and then as a private-duty nurse's aide in Blair County. She was a lifelong member of Martinsburg Mennonite Church.
Pleasy enjoyed bowling, flower gardening, music and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012, at John C. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Martinsburg. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 24, 2012, at Martinsburg Mennonite Church, Pastor Joseph H. Furry Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Spring Hope Cemetery, Martinsburg.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be given to Martinsburg Mennonite Church memorial fund.
