Dear Blair County commissioners:
I am writing to you to ask that you reconsider the sale of the Valley View soccer fields. These fields and the youth organization that they support are a vital part of a vibrant community. These types of open spaces and field space are in short supply in the Altoona/Blair County Area.
I have lived in many different areas and states. Those communities that provide organizations such as AYSO, parks and recreational areas tend to attract more families, businesses and lead to a higher quality of life in a community. These fields are a part of the community where thousands of Blair County residents meet every spring and fall to not only watch their sons, daughters, grandkids, nieces and nephews play soccer but to also make connections with others.
These fields are also used by countless other Blair County residents and the Altoona Area School District. It would be a shame for the community to loose such a valuable area so it can be subdivided and another half empty strip mall or housing development be built in its place.
I fear the loss of these fields will have a negative impact on the residents of Blair County and will be remembered for a long time to come.
