PATTON - A Tuesday afternoon vehicle chase ended on a dead-end street with a Blair County man in custody, police said.
Adam David Weigand, 25, of Hollidaysburg was jailed late Tuesday in Cambria County Prison, police said.
Weigand was wanted in South Carolina but authorities said he won't be extradited. Online court records show two cases: one for marijuana possession, and the other for driving without a license.
His girlfriend and their child were in the vehicle during the chase and were not injured, officers said. The woman wasn't charged.
Cresson Borough police initiated a traffic stop on Front Street and Ashcroft Avenue about 1 p.m. Tuesday, police said. Weigand fled north on Route 53 before turning left on Route 36 toward Patton.
Weigand evaded officers' attempts to deploy spike strips on the road, Cresson police said.
The pursuit came to an end when Weigand turned onto a dead-end street in Patton, police said.
"We were able to get the car stopped in Patton," Patton Police Chief Vincent Leppert said.
Officers pinned the vehicle against a guardrail and a telephone pole to end the pursuit, Leppert said.
Weigand exited the vehicle and was taken into custody, Leppert said. No injuries were reported during the chase, but a Patton police cruiser was damaged, he said.
Weigand was arraigned before on-call Magisterial District Judge Galen F. Decort on aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of a child, recklessly endangering another person, fleeing or eluding, resisting arrest charges and vehicle violations.
Weigand was sentenced Dec. 4 to two to 12 months in Cambria County Prison for a probation violation in a criminal trespass/drug paraphernalia case, online court records state. He was given credit for time served and immediately released on parole.
Officers from Cresson, Gallitzin, Cambria Township and Ebensburg and state troopers were involved in the pursuit, Leppert said.
