Excelsior Volunteer Fire Department firefighters responded to a residential fire at the 700th block of East Ninth Street, Bellwood, that left a woman and her four children without a home Saturday night.
The woman and her children were not home when the fire started, said Chief Dave McCloskey.
They are living with extended family since the fire destroyed their home, he said.
He said the home was not insured and the origin of the fire is under investigation. Flames also damaged a neighboring home, he said.
