Clementine M. "Clem" (Hryn) Kawtoski, 94, Altoona, passed away Saturday afternoon at her residence.
She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Paul and Appolonia (Podgorski) Hryn.
Clem married Stanley A. on July 3, 1941 at SS. Peter & Paul Roman Catholic Church, Altoona. He preceded her in death on May 29, 2004.
Surviving are five daughters: Mary Ann Shields and husband, Denny, of Hollidaysburg; Jenny Naroski and husband, Joe, of Mentor, Ohio; Sister Pauline, with whom she resided; Rose Marie Creppage and husband, Bernie; and Trish Frederick and husband, Jeff, all of Altoona; three sons: Stanley and wife, Linda, (Dixon), of Sykesville, Md., Joseph and wife, Deb (Riccio), and Robert and wife, Linda (Sipes), all of Altoona; grandchildren: Michael Kawtoski, Stephanie Kawtoski, Adam Kawtoski, Lucas Kawtoski, Tyler Kawtoski, Tech Sgt. Brent Shields and wife, Melissa, Colleen Shields and friend, Ryan Miller, Erin Shields, Melissa Merker and husband, Scott, Amy Naroski, Doug Kawtoski, Kelly Keagy and husband, Chris, Betsy Kawtoski, Keith Kawtoski, Kathleen Creppage, Lauren Creppage, Evan Creppage, Zack Frederick, Aaron Frederick and Aubrey Frederick; great-grandchildren: Madison Kawtoski, Aiden Kawtoski, Killian Keagy, Makenna Miller, Brayden Shields, Trevyn Shields and Colsyn Shields; 17 step-grandchildren; and 18 step-great-grandchildren; brothers: Stanley and wife, Bernyce, and Joseph, all in California; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Zygmund; and sisters: Viola, Helen and Balbina.
Clem was a custodian and housekeeper for Ss. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church and the school for 22 years.
She was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Parish (formerly SS. Peter & Paul Roman Catholic Church); SS. Peter & Paul Rosary Society; St. Hedwigs Society; and the Polish National Alliance.
Clem was an avid reader, enjoyed crossword and word search puzzles, was a great story teller and enjoyed her Pirates, Steelers and Duke basketball. She also translated letters from English to Polish and Polish to English for people and loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012, at the Stanley J. Krish Funeral Home Inc., 1204 17th Street, Altoona, PA 16601.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012, at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 12th Ave. & 20th St., Altoona, with Father James D. Zatalava officiating. Committal will be at SS. Peter & Paul Roman Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be given to a church of your choice, for Masses to be said in her memory or to Sister Paula's Soup Kitchen, c/o St. Vincent DePaul, 2201 Union Ave., Altoona, PA 16601.
