J. Lester Detwiler, 83, New Florence, formerly of Williamsburg and Long Key, Fla., died Saturday at his home.
He was born in Williamsburg, son of the late John Lester Sr. and Florence (Shore) Detwiler.
Lester was married to Lois V. (Showalter), who died Feb. 22, 2011, after 62 years of marriage.
Surviving are his children: Corena Stiffler and husband James, of New Florence, and Bruce Detwiler and wife, Bonnie, of Upper St. Clair; grandchildren: James Stiffler Jr. and wife, Tracy, Kevin Stiffler and wife, Amy, Heidi (Stiffler) Peters and husband, Bert, Leslie (Detwiler) Fastovsky and husband, Jeff, Amber Krouse and Sean Krouse; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Dean A. Detwiler.
Lester retired from Penelec with 42 years of service at both the Williamsburg and Seward generating stations.
He was a member of the New Florence United Methodist Church; Juniata Blue Lodge No. 282 F&AM, Hollidaysburg; and Valley of Altoona Consistory.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., today at Kenneth A. Stuart Funeral Home, 139 Ligonier St., New Florence, with a Masonic service at 7:30 p.m.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012, with the Rev. Sharon Hamley and the Rev. Norman Kaufman co-officiating. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg, where a committal service will be held at 1 p.m.
