GLENSHAW - The Altoona girls basketball team evened its record at 2-2 Saturday afternoon, thanks to a 65-54 win at Shaler in high school basketball action.

Altoona, which trailed 12-10 after one quarter, got 23 points from Darby Lee. Teammate McKenzie Hatch added 12 points in a game the Lady Lions led at the break, 30-27.

Coach Jill Helsel's club used a 16-8 advantage in the third quarter to take a 46-35 lead into the final frame. Shaler (1-3) cut the lead to two at one point in the fourth quarter before Altoona pulled away for a win.

"We switched up our defenses more and that kind of threw them off," Helsel added.

TYRONE - Jordyn Swogger scored 14 of her 18 points in the second half as the Lady Eagles improved to 3-1 with a win over Central Mountain.

Tyrone, up 20-13 at the break, also got 12 points from Nicole Gripp, 11 from Alex Brooks and 10 boards from Morgan Taylor.

"In the second half, we played much better offensively. We made some great passes and really executed the offense well," Tyrone coach Luke Rhoades said. "More importantly, we shot with confidence."

The Lady Eagles got 17 points from Madalyn Veit in a game Tyrone led at the break, 27-6. Olivia Bietz chipped in with seven points for the winners, while teammate Alexis Cannistraci added six points, 12 boards and 10 assists.
