MILL HALL - Two second-seeded wrestlers from Bedford Area High School, Jonathan Gabriel (106 pounds) and Ryan Easter (126) made it to today's semifinal round of the prestigious King of the Mountain Wrestling Classic Friday at Central Mountain High School.

Gabriel pinned Paul Robinson of North Hunterdon (N.J.) in 2:31 in the first round, then topped Brandon Paetzell of Philipsburg, N.J., 3-1 in the quarterfinal round to earn a semifinal bout against unseeded Daulton Wilson of Mifflin County.

The top seed in Gabriel's weight class, Joe Wheeling of General McLane, made it to the semis by posting two falls Friday.

Easter scored a 15-0, 4:21 technical fall over Allentown Dieruff's Emmanuel Shockley in the opening round, then edged out Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy's Jimmy Coyne, 1-0 in the quarters. Easter faces Council Rock South's Harry Murray in the semis. Line Mountain's Will Koll, the top seed at 126, advanced to the semis with two falls Friday.

Several Bedford wrestlers stayed in the medal for third through eighth-place medals by winning a pair of matches after being knocked into the wrestlebacks Friday. They included Garrett Thomas (132), Toby Brett (138), Tanner Williams (152), and Mike Brett (195).

Each of those wrestlers must win their opening match today to guarantee themselves of a medal.

Cumberland Valley leads the team race after one night of competition with 70 points. Bedford, with 55 points, is in a tie for eighth place with Fort LeBoeuf.
